Sean, the two cases are different.

In the case of the Poulenc: what is in the latest edition, which pretty
much corresponds to what was in the original publication in 1962,
represents Poulenc's final thoughts on the matter. This has been
rehearsed here a couple of times; I'll look out the relevant posts in
the archive. I know that some French players think otherwise, but they
are mistaken. (I can provide the detailed photocopied evidence.)

On the other hand, I don't like the layout of the latest edition very
much.

In the case of the Stravinsky, I agree with you that the latest edition,
which gives some of the original MS version, is arguably wrong because
Stravinsky changed his mind before publication. (I've posted about this
too, and the relevant material is in the archive.) But at least it gives
you the information about what is in both MS and printed versions.
