Nancy,

I have a few friends that have placed a thin rubber insert between the back
of their Harris ligatures and the mouthpiece. They have used a drop of
contact cement to hold it to the ligature so they don't have to fight
keeping it in place. This seems to do the trick for them....and without any
loss of performance in the ligature. I know another person that has used a
thin sheet of synthetic cork (very tough stuff) to do the same thing. Take
time to trip the backing material so it looks nice. ;-) A sharp single edge
razor does a nice job.
I always liked the way that the Harris ligatures performed.

Regards,

Forest

Forest,

I have three Harris silver ligatures, two for Bb clarinet and one for eefer.
I liked them with my Hite mouthpieces, but have a hard time with them on my
wooden Greg Smith mouthpieces. To make the reed respond with them on the
wooden mouthpieces, I have to tighten them so tight that I am afraid I will
mark the mouthpiece. If I put anything under the mouthpiece, then the
screws aren't long enough to tighten the ligature with. I haven't played
enough with them to know just what I can do as far as changing screw length,
etc. I do know that glue is very hard to remove from the wood without
damaging it and I have allergy problems with chemicals. Any suggestions?

Nancy
