Neil,

I have used the Bonade inverted ligature for years. I had the opportunity to
play all of the BG ligatures several years ago at the TMEA convention in San
Antonio. Franck was there and let me take a sample case of his ligatures for
trial. I found his ligatures to be excellent.
In order of preference...I liked the gold plate Tradition the best. It
probably produced an environment more similar to my Bonade. We will all have
certain prejudices that will affect any evaluation. The Super Revolution was
my next choice. I didn't find the brightness in the sound that you
experienced but remember, that I'm coming from the Bonade and opera pit
orchestral experience. I need a sound coming from deep in the pit that cuts
like a hot knife through butter. Then the silver plate Tradition and then
the Revolution and finally the all cloth product. I've never been a fan of
Rovner products.
On the gold, silver Tradition and on the Super Revolution...I found the
sound to be nicely focused and I find the one of the real advantages with
these two ligatures is the clean articulation they allow me to produce. Both
in wide interval slurs and tonguing....all styles.
I use my Bonades on Cicero Kaspars. I also have several great Greg Smith
mouthpieces....and I use my Bonades or the silver Tradition on these. I have
a nice Lomax mouthpiece that I use on my Buffet RC C clarinet and I use the
gold Tradition on this setup.
It's nice to have so many options with ligatures!! They all feel a little
different....and I have to say that the BG ligatures that I use are top
rate.
I did crunch my silver Tradition recently. After several years of use the
screw got stuck. In my somewhat hostile attempt to loosen it...I bent the
fragile ligature cage (softer than I thought).

Regards,

Forest
