Vandoren 5JB is the obvious choice if only because, as Bill notes, the
company touts it as "the jazz mouthpiece." In fact it allows a really
huge, "bendy" sound. I get the same--or better--effect from a Pomarico
"diamond," very open facing--only there you get to look at the condensation
from your own breath on the inside of the crystal. I suppose everyone's
mileage varies with stuff like this, but generally the rule SEEMS to be
open facing, large chambers, stuff like that. Then there are the ones with
artist endorsements attached: Buddy DeFranco and Eddie Daniels. Is the
mouthpiece going to help? If I could play like either of those men to
start with I could blow into a cinder block to which I'd strapped a 2x4.
