The first time I performed them in public I was still full of myself (much
more than now). I recalled dePayer performing in a 3-piece suit, so I did
it. We were in a small venue with a humidifier pumping out moisture; the
suit was hot and the vest was tight. I was sure that I was going to kill
myself. The bassoonist thought that I was having a stroke. That's what
memories are made of.

Beethoven didn't believe in having to breathe any more than was necessary
for survival. :p
