From: Bear Woodson <bearwoodson@-----.net> Subj: [kl] Music Theory Texts for Traditional Tonality Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2003 00:45:44 -0400
It has been many years since I focused only on
Traditional Tonality, since my specialty is dealing
with Post Tonal Music Theory of the 20th Century.
(I have never liked, nor promoted 12-Tone, Random,
and Minimal Styles, etc., rather I prefer Chromatic
Modality, with a strong influence of Counterpoint.)
But years ago I took a class that reviewed various
text books for how to teach Traditional Tonality,
and I found the Ottman texts to be the most simple
to read, clear to understand, and fairly thorough on
the material. They might be a bit expensive, but
you could probably contact a store in your area
that sells used college text books, and save your-
self a lot of money. (That's how I got my Adler
Orchestration text for a few dollars, instead of
$ 75!!!)=20
