And, if anything, this is even more true of spelling. Look at letters by
colonial Americans - ones we call heroes today. Was there a standard Italian
dictionary in Mozart's time? And as an Austrian, would he (or whoever wrote
the subtitle on the score) have had ready access to a copy of it?
