You don't have to defend anything to me. I am not attacking you, I was just
trying to jokingly point out that your view of period classical performance
might be a little rose-tinted. ;-) Anyway, histrionics and showing off in
instrumental music was nothing compared to what went on in opera---even when
they *were* performing the "greats"...
