Those wanting an anti-war platform might want to move over to the music
librarians list (he said somewhat jokingly), where there are a cadre of
people who are on-and-off trying to find any kind of "musical wedge" to
make it into a political soapbox. You'll find some objection there,
too, about non-topical posts, but it seems there are far more devoted
leftists in the library world. Given the person-specific origins for
overall political posts on the list, it seems that the foundations are
not so much anti-war as anti-Bush, i.e., the war in Iraq is an excuse
for attacking Bush; if no war, then it would be something (anything)
else. They're still bent out of shape that Gore couldn't win his own
home state (which was all he had to do). It's less than a handful that,
across the board, seem to be trying to use *any* e-group as a political
venue.

Now, as far as moderation goes, I must point out that it can be an
enormnous task. I'd been on the board for ChoralNet a number of years,
and their three lists (one much less active than the others) takes a
whole team of moderators an enormous amount of time to moderate.
Primarily, it's not filtering out political postings (though that
happens; even the board had to admonish the administrator once for a
posted political comment). I would not want to wish that continuous
part-time job on any one person.

Another, unrelated e-list, Orchestralist, is moderated only "after the
fact" -- heinous transgressors are warned first, then unsubscribed if
they continue.
