I think whoever wrote it had recently (very) heard/played the Concertino. I
don't think it's synthesized, though, even some of the latest synthesizers
don't sound that crisp and clear, they have more of a metallic sound; could
have been pitches recorded into a keyboard/soundboard with a real clarinet,
though, I guess, maybe.
