Great idea! One minor caution: Leave metal stuck to masking tape for no
more than a few days, or else the tape can deposit a gummy residue,
especially in warm temperatures or under bright lights. Several commercial
products (Simple Green, Goo-Gone, etc.) remove adhesive residue, but it's a
nuisance to re-clean the keys all over again. Getting the goo out of the
grooves of small screws is a lousy job. I found out about that when I
bought one of those partially-disassembled flea market clarinets I
mentioned in a previous message. At first, I thought a lot of screws were
missing. Then I investigated the folded-up wad of masking tape in the
parts compartment.... (BTW, duct tape deposits sticky residue on silver or
nickel almost instantly.)
