I'm running the woodwind workshop at which Dan is playing the Gran
Partitta (actually at a pre-weekend for the workshop proper)in Santa Fe.
In response to Tony, he pronounces it in Californian, in which 't'
sounds like 'd' anyway. We are having a sort of Leeson master class on
the GP over the weekend of July 5,6 and 7. I haven't worked out all the
details with Dan yet, but it will be a combination of rehearsing and
playing the work, Dan lecturing on it, telling us why it took him ten
years to realise that a bar normally included should be omitted,
pontificating whenever he feels like it and eating pizza. He's kindly
donated his services but we do have to keep him in pizza!

The players will be those registered for the workshop, who are good
amateur players plus some of the professional coaches, including Lori
Lovato of this list. Plus of course an imported double bass - I have
sworn in blood to immobilise the contrabassoon player who'll be around.
I'm afraid registration is closed for clarinets now (a few spots for
bassoons and horns are open). But I'd be happy to have auditors from the
List for the weekend or for the performance, which will be on Monday
evening, probably at 8, and will also have a short recital by the
professional coaches for the week, who are based on the superb New
Mexico Woodwind Quintet. It's at Sunrise Springs, Santa Fe, New Mexico -
see the web link below. It is not a public perfomance but a kick-off
concert for the main workshop, and players will probably be rotating for
different movements. Please email me offlist if you'd like to come; I'll
have to make a modest charge to cover Dan's pizza, and also need to know
how many might turn up for mundane things like seating.

I'm also the other basset hornist, having just picked up my Fox
instrument (drool). Visually at least, we will be a total knockout! Any
Brits who'd like to see it (I live in Warwick UK) are also welcome to
contact me. These Fox models take a standard clarinet mouthpiece (French
type - the German type does not work so well on them).

I don't know yet. I didn't get that information, but I'll post it once I

find our where I am supposed to go. By the way, the other basset
hornist also has a Fox medium bore gold plated instrument, so we are a
matched pair. The glitter could knock your eyes out. And bring the
pizzzza with you!
