To the List:

I agree with Richard 100%. The purpose of this list was to discuss
music-related topics, first and foremost relating to the clarinet. The
quantity of JUVENILE chit-chat and banter has increased to a more than
intolerable level, and I suspect that it has to do with the increased =
number
of younger clarinetists in high school and junior high/middle school who
look at this more as a chat list.

Okay, I am biased. However--and this is directed to the younger members =
of
this list--there is a large number of professionals on this list =
(players
and teachers), and it seems to me that their participation and input has
significantly decreased over the past few years. Could their decreased
participation be directly proportionate to the increase in the juvenile
banter? Hmmm...

That's right, and this group is becoming a vehicle for off topic,=20
juvenile chit chat. I knew exactly what the word meant when I chose to=20
use it.

There is always room for some off topic comments, but a constant diet=20
by a few who compulsively add their two cents to this group is=20
seriously diluting the very reason for the group....to talk about all=20
things that relate to clarinet, clarinet playing, clarinet music,=20
clarinet teaching, clarinet fixing, etc.

While those who do this seem to feel there is nothing wrong with it,=20
they fail to realize that it will eventually drive away many who have=20
substantive and important information to share.

I'm thinking seriously of giving this group a rest. If the banal patter=20
continues at present levels I will unsubscribe before this month is=20
over.
