And no one on this list has ever said that they want to do any of those
things. The clarinet is not the most important thing in my life, nor is
this list. But I come to this list for discussion of issues related to the
clarinet and clarinet playing.

If you want social hour with the people on the Klarinet list, you're free
to start up a yahoo group or other mailing list and invite everyone here
to join. It could be like back in the old days of USENET groups, when
you'd have something like alt.music.clarinet and
alt.music.clarinet.d for the meta-discussions that don't belong in the
group itself.

The point is, simply, that the off-topic banter doesn't belong on the
list, where it gets distributed to nearly a thousand people.
