I wrote about having the same barrel sticking problem about a month ago.
A week of drying out the barrel and upper joint and not playing them did
nothing, but a judicious application of sandpaper (not done by me) to the
barrel socket did the trick.

It didn't make sense to sand the tenon because this was the only barrel
I had trouble with. Works like a charm now. It's a load off my mind to
be able to push all the way in when necessary and know that I'll be able
to get the barrel off again.
