Ken,

What happened to your barrel isn't reserved for the cheap instruments =
only. If it's wood, it can happen to any brand and model. The =
resistance you feel is the tenon hitting the place in the barrel that =
needs to be reduced. Don't sand the tenon. If a mistake is made, it is =
a lot easier and cheaper to fix/replace a barrel than a joint. The =
tenon itself must fit correctly in the barrel socket before it is =
corked. Otherwise, the tenon will wobble in the barrel socket and you =
will have intonation problems and a leak to boot.
