I was going to suggest something like that, too. But I wasn't sure if
it was a good idea, ( just because it works for me doesn't
mean it's a good idea, right?) ;-) I'm not any kind of expert. But I have
a flat rubber circle that is about the thickness of inner tube rubber,
and about 5' in diameter, that was made for removing stubborn jar lids.
I had used in on occasion, on a clarinet that I had a few years ago.
But I was always afraid I would damage something, the tenons
in particular. So after that I always made sure I used enough cork
grease and I didn't have that trouble any more.
