It turns out that I misstated the facts.

According to the orchestra's records --- they had complete records which
included the distribution of the various strings --- they played the
Copland concerto with harp and piano exactly as James Varineau posted.

I can't explain the bad feelings with which I came away from the
performance, but apparently I did misstate the facts. I must have
confused my memory of the Copland with other performances where I really
didn't enjoy the horns.

And since their roster for the upcoming K.622 performance with David
Shifrin is two bassoons, two flutes, and two horns, I am going to buy a
ticket and listen. His "Two Brahms Soirees" CD is beyond compare, imo.
