Subj: [kl] Frozen-on barrel: HELP!
Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2003 00:38:24 -0400

Maybe it was the sudden heat, but I find the barrel of the Noblet 40 frozen
to the upper joint. It's about a third of the way up, and I can't budge
it. It looks as though the tenon and barrel both expanded. I tried
putting the upper joint and barrel into the freezer for a few minutes, but
nothing happened--the thing is still stuck and absolutely immovable.

Now what? I'm afraid of damaging the keywork by gripping the joint too
tightly. I can always get one of those fibre or composite barrels, but in
the meantime I have no idea how to get this one off the instrument.

Yes, I greased the tenons. But--my mistake--I left it assembled in my
office with the door closed while I was out.

Ideas?

Ken

If we all carry a little of the burden, it will be lightened. If we share
in the suffering of the world, then some will not have to endure so heavy
an affliction. It evens out.
