Here's a comment (not advice, just a comment):

Samantha, you may possibly *profit* from learning a second instrument
yourself. If the teacher truly knows the saxophone, maybe this could
be your ideal opportunity.

I'm not saying to abandon clarinet, but breadth of experience *is* worth
something, and experience on a second woodwind could possibly improve
your clarinet music over the long haul. and it could give you broader
understanding of what goes on i an orchestra, etc. (Mind you, I'm not
speaking from my own direct experience, but others on this list have
made the point from time to time.)

One last comment:

You say that you've been playing for 7 years. If the practicalities of
your education have 'trapped' you and there's no cure, have you
considered doing some teaching yourself? My daughter teaches piano
(but studies violin). She tells me at least once a month that she
learns more about piano by dealing with her students' problems than she
does by simply practicing. She doesn't charge enough (imo), but she
enjoys it; and as I've already said, she feels that diagnosing &
instructing beginners does quite a bit for her own skills and her wn
understanding of music.

Cheers,
Bill
