About four months ago, I informed the listserve that I would give the Legere
a four month exclusive go. The time has ended, and this week I switched back
to my 5RVLyre, V12 3.5 setup.

Well . . . . my cane reeds still take the Grammy. Resorting to adjectives
that could upset the cognescenti, my sound with cane is more cultured;
mellow; richer; sweeter. I seem to be able to get more expression from cane;
it responds more quickly to the musical thoughts that run through my head. I
am able to shape notes more fluidly. There is an additional resonance to
cane that gives the sound a body that I cannot achieve with the Legere.

The Legere performs wonderfully in almost every technical regard. No need
for a long warm up. Consistenty. Note to note coherence. But ultimately the
sound isn't quite there. And being there is important for me.

I will be peforming the Mozart Quintet in a recital at the Community School
of the Piedmont here in Virginia in a couple of weeks. I have working on it
with the Legere. Last night, I rehearsed with cane. Hard to explain.

I'll keep both, for sure. But cane will be on the mouthpiece on April 27th.
