My thought was that possibly in addition to whatever has eaten it,
the paper itself may be old and brittle, and it may not stand
up to much page-turning. It might be good to find a newer edition
of the book to actually *use*, and maybe keep the old one around
as a "collectible"? If there are pages in that edition that you really
want to play, you could make photocopies of those pages for
your own use, and store the original away in a silverfish/hamster-proof
place..... ;-)
