Subj: [kl] C clarinet weirdness

I was practicing on my C clarinet yesterday, in preparation for a rehearsal of the Bizet "Symphonie in C". I decided to get out my Bonade excerpt book and try some of the famous excerpts for C clarinet.

It felt downright weird playing some of them on the C clarinet, after years and years of learning them on the Bb. For example, the famous second clarinet "solo" in Symphonie Fantastique. I kept trying to transpose it!!!!!!!

The "Moldau" is WAY easier on the C clarinet. I'll never play it on Bb again!

And the Barber of Seville - no comparison. Much easier, and it SOUNDS "right" on the C clarinet in a way that it never did on the Bb.

Anyone else with similar - or different - experiences?
