This is absolutely true, Wendy. It's a trade-off.

I don't know about Anne, but I use WebTV --- even though I have a 'real'
computer which I refuse to connect to a telephone line --- because I
refuse to invest the time & effort to battle viruses and other malicious
tricks which indicate the social immaturity of the twits who write them.

I admit that my perspective has changed over the years.

At one time, I was on a 3-person team who wrote an operating system for
the local University. It was designed to make the best use of ArpaNet
(predecessor to the Internet), and it allowed us to talk with Far
Eastern universities before 'email' became a household fixture. In
those days, I thought it was !GREAT FUN! to write programs (in
assembler) that did nothing useful, but their execution produced EMI
('static' or 'interference') which caused a nearby FM radio to 'play' a
melody of some sort. Each of us worked out loops for the notes on a
scale. Sometimes we argued about the precision thereof. One of us
had perfect pitch and could 'write' melodies in any temperament. (yep,
even back then I had a bit of music in my soul, we competed to see who
could 'write' the best melody)

....anyway, WebTV doesn't have a disk drive, and hence I am 'immune' to
most of these nastinesses --- albeit I can't download anything at all
(such as sheet music or MP3's or Adobe's PDF program).

As I say, it's a trade-off, but even programs such as Norton (which I
have on my 'real' computer) can be tricked, and you need constant
updates, and you need to educate yourself how to use them..... and....
and it just isn't worth it to me.

(by the way, as I understand it, it's not the .pdf files that are too
large, it's Adobe Acrobat tat's too large)
