Barb, I'm sure Nancy will have more to say to you. Also do a search in the
archives and on the old Bulletin Board entries and you'll find more info.
Their website is <http://www.patricola.net/>. Because of notes that Nancy
and Kelly Abraham and others wrote here about the Patricola, I became very
interested in these clarinets. Nancy wrote me personally about the pros and
cons of Rosewood (and I don't think I ever reported back to her with my
decision....) International Musical Suppliers sent me three grenadilla horns
to try and I found them quite nice. They have all the essential features of
other pro horns. I was close to buying one, but playing them side by side
with my teacher's Buffet Prestige, and then later next to an R-13 at a local
shop, it seemed that I could feel a difference in response. I will not say
that the difference was large or dramatic, but I decided to buy a Buffet
instead (for about $500 bucks more). A few months later I was able to try
out 6 Buffets at (then) Boosey and Hawkes (near Los Angeles) and the rest is
history. I guess the point of this is to say that the Patricolas are a very
reasonable choice and that I really appreciate the information I got from
this list and the chance to try instruments from vendors like International.
