Another good book that explains ornaments well (and comes with tunes and
a CD to hear them) is the McCullough's tinwhistle tutor. As already
noted, flute/whistle are the major wind instruments. They tend to be in
the key of D, which is convenient, as most fiddle tunes seem to be in
sharp keys (G, D, A).

Listening is critical for learning traditional irish music. Accent, tone
and ornamentation are very important in regional styles and no notation
system really handles these well.
