Greetings from the desert Nancy!
Yes, the dryness can be devastating
to ye ol' reed collection. I have found
that storing reeds in a cigar humidor
works wonders, especially for the reeds
that have not been played yet. Most people
around here keep humidifiers going and
pianists have fancy gadgets that keep
the humidity constant.
Personally I love the clear air, warm
days and cool evenings, but as you guessed
I grew up here! For me going to school in
Chicago was difficult, my toes didn't thaw
out until April, and the summer humidity
was unbelieveable, but I wouldn't have given
it up for anything. :)
Next time you're in Albuq., drop a line
and I'll reserve you a symphony ticket!
All the best,
Lori Lovato
