It would be a great exercise for her to learn how to listen to cd's or
tapes and transcribe them, especially at such a young age. If she can gain
that skill now, she'll be way ahead of a lot of other musicians of her
cohort.

In the klezmer scene, most bands find music by transcribing old 78's, and
I know a lot of bluegrass musicians do the same thing. For those who play
in styles without a great written collection, being able to play by ear is
an essential skill.

If you can help her build this skill now, despite the frustrations that
will likely ensue, you'll be giving her a gift she'll never forget.
