Dan,

I don't dispute most of what you say what you say. I said that it was =
the best sound "I " ever got and that is what I meant. I had my good =
mouthpieces with me, which at the time were Hites, and I used them to =
try many different instruments while I was in Europe. All other factors =
being equal, and I think they are, as I haven't had any radical surgery =
to my music-making parts, you would think there would be no difference. =
But I can tell you that what came through my body on the Eaton was very =
different than anything else I have played, with the exception of the =
Hammerschmidt clarinets, which in my opinion are the finest out there. =
Again, that is based on what comes through my body with my set-up. =20

I disagree about the part that a tuba is a tuba, etc., though. I don't =
know what other instrument families you are proficient with, but I can =
tell you that there are differences in sound in flutes and oboes from =
one maker to another and using different materials to manufacture them =
with and even from metal to non-metal clarinets. Take a piccolo for =
example. There is a definite difference between the sound of a metal =
picc and a wooden one. Also what your ears hear and what mine hear =
aren't necessarily the same either. You can only judge what you hear =
because you have no idea what someone else hears.

Most respectfully,

Nancy
