 Hey, Annie,

I hope this will help you. My daughter is a violin student who played
in an Irish band for a couple of years - what a gas! - and during her
work with that group I discovered a set of four books edited and
published by one Dave Mallinson in West Yorkshire. They are a treasure
trove. They contain a hundred tunes each and have simple chord
notation below the melody line. The drawback is that the melody part
is intended for a C instrument, but it's possible to transpose either
the tune or the chords if one is willing and able. They are quite
fiddle-oriented, as you can imagine, and tend toward sharp keys. I
have used these in my own clarinet/flute teaching and just for fun
(like playing them on piccolo at a staff Xmas bash at school with a
few beers under my belt and a backup band in no better condition).
 Here's the info:

 Dave Mallinson Publications
 3 East View, Moorside, Cleckheaton
 West Yorkshire, BD19 6LD England
 tel: 01274-876388
 fax: 01274-852280

 The titles are:
 100 Essential Irish Session Tunes
 100 Enduring Irish Session Tunes
 100 Evergreen Irish Session Tunes
 100 Irish Polkas

He is likely to have other titles as well. I just gave him a call and
ordered over the phone. I'm sure a fax would do as well ... if you do
call, I seem to recall that the leading zero in the number was not
necessary from abroad - I dialled our international dialling code,
then the country code, and then the # without the zero. If you have
trouble, I guess an operator can help ...

Best of luck to you both,

 Anna
