The Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music says the following about him:

================

Filas, Thomas J. (1908- ) [Note: this is as of 1991]

Thomas J. Filas was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 5, 1908, He
studied at Armour Tech and the American Conservatory in Chicago. He
performed on the oboe, clarinet, and saxophone in dance bands and on the
radio in the Chicago area.

Reference: ASCAP Biographical Dictionary

Known Works for Band:

Concerto for Doubles (pub. Willis, 1967)
Velocity, clarinet solo (pub. Fischer)

================

The Heritage Encyclopedia lists compositions and arrangements for band,
but not for other ensembles, so small ensemble works wouldn't be listed
there.

Incidentally, I am currently offering a 10% discount on the complete
three-volume set of the Heritage Encyclopedia of Band Music (Volumes 1-2
published in 1991, plus the larger supplementary volume published in
1996), on my Bayside Music Press website at
http://www:baysidemusicpress.com.

The list price of all three volumes is $200.00, which itself is below
the cost of production -- the project was underwritten by the Robert Hoe
Foundation. As of about 6 weeks ago, the publisher advised me that
there were fewer than 60 copies of the complete set left in stock, and
these books will go out of print when those copies are gone. Since
purchasing my own set in January, I've used it countless times. I think
this is a reference work that no serious band director should be
without.

So, Rich -- has the ice gone out on the lakes yet? I was able to
witness that phenomenon one spring afternoon back in the mid-1970's.
It's an awesome site when these huge ice sheets begin to move across the
lake, driven by the wind, and the water "turns over" and the ice almost
disappears in one day!!!
