Hi,

While I've haven't yet contributed to the group, I feel that I have dive in
now, to comment on the Benny Goodman Story. :-)

I have seen the movie at least a dozen times, the first time in the theater
when it was originally released, and think that it is well worth having and
watching many times. Just the music scenes alone are worthwhile, and Steve
Allen does a great job as Benny. Even though, I believe, Goodman himself
played the clarinet for those scenes, Allen did a great job learning to play
the instrument so that he could fake it.

The story itself touches, albeit very lightly, on some interesting issues
about religion and race in the big band era. And it's fun seeing and
hearing Lionel Hampton, Harry James, Teddy Wilson, and other musicians
playing.

So, don't hesitate to buy the DVD if you like big band music and a story
about those days. I'll be buying a copy.

Rebecca,
The movie was made in 1955. Don't buy it.
If you really want to see it, you can rent it for
a couple of bucks, and I think watching it once
will be enough.
