Some of us - sometimes - try to limit the meaning of "dark" to reduced
amplitude of higher partials. The problem is that often two person's
ears don't agree when listening to different sound samples without a
spectrum analyzer being present, and even if a machine is available, the
graph contains so much information --- all jammed together --- that
persons can't agree which elements of the graph account for their
opinion of 'bright' or 'dark' (or round or mellow or focused or......)
