Please excuse the off-topic listing, but this relates to the fate of a
friend and colleague.

John Daverio, musicology professor at Boston University, has been missing
since Sunday, March 16. Anyone who studied music at BU over the last twenty
years or so will remember John as a terrific teacher and wonderful human
being. Others may know of him by reputation from his books and his work on
Schumann.

According to newspaper accounts, after returning from Pennsylvania he
visited his office at 855 Commonwealth Ave to check his e-mail. He stepped
out of the building a bit later, and has not been seen since. Daverio's
wallet and briefcase were apparently still in his office, police said. Close
friends say that Daverio had not been ill or depressed, nor had he shown any
signs that something was wrong in his life. His major concern was his ailing
parents, who are in their mid-80s.

The more widely distributed information about John Daverio's disappearance,
the better chance of finding him. Any information please contact: Boston
University Police Detective Division at 617-353-3436 or by e-mail
BUPD914@-----.edu or Boston Police Detective Division, District-14 at
617-343-4256 or 1-(800) 494-TIPS. Photo of John are on the web at:
