(first, to Mark Charette...the Stephen Fox link and the Howarth
link in "Resources" on woodwind.org are both incorrect.)

Matthew,

If a D is your ultimate goal, and you have the money for a
Prestige or Opus, I would suggest looking into Stephen Fox
instruments. They are handmade, and if you do the $ conversion
(all of his prices are in CANADIAN dollars, not US...obviously,
since he is in Canada) they are appreciably cheaper than Buffet
and LeBlanc for a Prestige or Opus *Bb* which is cheaper than
their harmony instruments. You could save at least $500 (US) on
EACH instrument, AND have a handmade instrument with options you
ask for.

I am playing on 2 very nice Patricola instruments (Eb and C,)
but they do not make a D. Yamaha doesn't make a D. Rossi makes a
D, but curiously NOT an Eb. Actually, I don't know of any other
makers of BOTH Eb and D soprano instruments except for Buffet,
LeBlanc, Selmer, and Stephen Fox (Boehm/French style.) I suppose
some German makers like Wurlitzer make them, but I think you are
looking for french style instruments if you are matching your
proposed Eb to your proposed D instrument already.

Stephen Fox's website is http://www.sfoxclarinets.com
