I'm not sure this compares with instruments being run over or left on top of
cars, but when I was in junior high (and didn't know any better) I was walking
back to school after marching practice, carrying my clarinet by the bottom
joint, and somewhat upside-down. I didn't know that that joint was loose.
The whole top half went flying and took a nose dive into the asphalt,
completely destroying my Vandoren B45 mouthpiece (which for me was a really
expensive mouthpiece at the time). The worst part of it was my dad was my
band director, so he watched the whole thing happen!
