Tony, that's a truly generous offer. I am grateful.

Given the strength of people's feelings about this, and given that I
have no desire to be labelled 'ridiculous' or 'spoiled', I have decided
to buy a piece of Delrin rod --- which isn't all that expensive --- and
take it to a local machine shop who can drill a 'bore' and a pair of
larger 'sockets' for the price of a 'shop minimum'. Then I won't feel
as if I have imposed unduly on anyone else's good will.

In fact, I have a friend who enlarged one of the sockets on my Howarth's
barrel for me because the tenon of a new mouthpiece was tight on my
instrument. I haven't had lunch with him for a year, so perhaps I'll
go in that direction instead.

Cheers, and thanks again for the courtesy. I **do** appreciate the
offer.

-Bill
