Wendy, of course many years have passed since I was at the University of
Arizona.
I was not a music major but was getting my graduate degree in
mathematics, yet I remember being warmly welcomed into the various
ensembles of the music department. I played with the University
orchestra (under Henry Johnson), the band (under Jack Lee), and the
Tucson symphony under a conductor whose name slipped my mind.

Things may have changed as you noted, but there was never a feeling of
not liking non-music majors when I was there. In fact, some of the
better members of the band were all non music majors. At that time, the
trumpet teacher was the former soloist with the Sousa band and we were
very good friends. Sam Fain was clarinet professor and it was a LONG
time ago.
