Yes, it was back in the Fifties!

I, too, remember those little mouthpieces. However, the ones I saw were for
bassoon. Perhaps, their disappearance was due to the drastic reduction of
reed related suffering that they provided their users. What would be the
point of being a double reed player with out sacrificing your life to The
Cult of Reed!?
