Michael "Peanuts" Hucko was once fired from his job playing tenor sax with
the Will Bradley/Ray McKinley band because he did not play clarinet well
enough. He later put some more time into it, particularly AFTER he was
drafted during WW II. The practice paid off, and he wound up the
clarinetist in the Glenn Miller Army Air Force band (whose drummer happened
to be Ray McKinley). Although he was an excellent tenor man, he eventually
became more famous for his clarinet work.
