Regarding "Is it supposed to come apart?", a clue to thinking about this
would be:

If the instrument has several joints that come apart, why would one
joint be permanently glued?

The possibility of swollen or shrunken wood, or fragmented cork that has
broken free and created a jam, or saliva+mold that has grown and died
and turned into glue, are different questions, of course.
