Subj: [kl] instrument rentals for Fernando
Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 13:06:09 -0500

Fernando,

I am checking stores here in NYC to see what the possibilities
are for renting a bass clarinet. The prospects do not look very
good. The stores that do rent instruments would only have a low
Eb student instrument available for rentals, which is not what
you are looking for.

Here are a couple of possibilities...

1. Contact the University of North Florida School of Music in
Jacksonville to ask about possibly borrowing an instrument.

2. Contact the University of Central Florida School of Music in
Orlando to ask about possibly borrowing an instrument.

3. Contact the bas clarinettist that is presently playing with
the symphony to ask permission to play their instrument.

4. As a last resort, you could always *purchase* an instrument,
that has a trial period to see if you win the audition, and if
you like the instrument. If you won the audition, you would
immediately need an instrument, so it would work well. If the
audition didn't go as planned, or you don't like the instrument,
some places give a 2 week trial on instruments so you can send
one back if you don't like it. There is usually a nominal fee
for the return for restocking, but it would probably be less
than renting an instrument, as long as the full amount of the
instrument can be put on a credit card while you have the
instrument.

What is the budget you have for the rental (or what would you
have budgeted to buy an instrument if you won the audition?)

Oh, and I almost forgot...WHEN is the audition for the
Jacksonville Symphony?
