Oh, man. Don't get me started. Given the opportunity, go to Blue Lake.
Clarinet Fest happens every year, but you can't go to Blue Lake forever. I
went for five years in a row when I was in school and they were vital to my
skill level. My fourth year out there, (my first after switching from a
good plastic Yamaha to my precious R-13) I came out of auditions as the best
of the bunch. Problem was, I had to be principal clarinet in the orchestra
and I had never played with an orchestra before. The two others kept
looking to me for advice, but I had none to give. It was so exciting being
the only clarinet on a part and actually being heard that I joined my local
orchestra when I returned to school. My experiences at Blue Lake were so
great that I even worked there a summer after graduating high school. I
worked in the music library and I learned so much there about how ensembles
are arranged and about the specific conductors and how they worked with the
students. If I were you I would never pass up an opportunity to go. Ann
and Ed Bingham are wonderful people as well as very talented. In fact, most
of the faculty are very excellent people. Boy, you'd think I was getting
paid for this advertisement. That's how much going there affected my life,
I guess.

I think going to clarinet fest is closed for me too. As of right now I am
planning to go back to the camp I went to last summer if I have enough cash.
There is a chance that I may not get to go, and if that happens I will go a
session to Blue Lakes. I talked to Ann Bingham from Marshall Univarsity who
I know well and it turns out that she works there plus there are other
mountain folk who go there. If I do that I am going to clarinet fest. I can
go to clarinet fest for the rest of my life though. This is the last
possible summer for me to go back to camp.

Anyone have a zillion dollars I can have?
