Your band director may or may not know what is best for you and the
other clarinet players.

You might prepare a tuning chart that would show the tuning of your
clarinet when pushed fully together, with a pull of 1/2 mm, 1 mm and 1
1/2 mm. You might also chart the tuning when pulled these amounts but
having tuning rings installed. A carefully conducted study would be
educational to you and it might sway your director if you feel he is in
error.

Another possible way of dealing with it is simply to Do as the Romans
do when in Rome. Remember, you will be moving on shortly.
