I would agree to the extent that Mikrokosmos _was_ written for educational
purposes but my understanding was that they were to better equip the
student to deal with the demands of 20th century (piano) music. If
alternate key signatures are difficult- is it that they aren't best for
that particular piece (modal/octatonic/etc...) or is it that we as
musicians aren't as flexible as we should be.......

BTW- I bought all 6 Mikrokosmos books after being introduced to one of the
pieces in one of my early theory classes. They're deceptively easy in the
beginning but are trickier than they look and some of them are very
interesting theoretically and others musically. I keep intending to work
through all the books but... Time is something that is in very short supply
at the moment (and the next 3 months of moments...)
