Anne,

When you say ALTERNATE key signatures (since I am not familiar
with the Bartok pieces you mentioned) do you mean something like
G## (double sharp), or do you mean odd signatures we can't give
a name to, because they don't correspond with the circle of
fifths by any name, because of the scale that results from the
signature?
