Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Clark's comment about the bell was interesting. The bell actually has a
crack, but my limited knowledge of clarinet acoustics told me that wouldn't
affect the F/C, only the E/B. Guess i was wrong--next time I promise full
disclosure;)

I'll start with the oil bath & see what that does. Any serious objections
to the olive/almond/vitamin e mix for soaking? Is Larry Naylor's solution
lots better? And do I need to remove all the metal parts first, or just the
keys (i.e. can I leave in the posts)?
