Abe....my class of students (working on your Tone, Technique and
Staccato)...says "hello." You're absolutely right, I believe, about
tuning at the mouthpiece. You drop the pitch this way, but not at an
expense of timbre as happens when one pulls at the barrel. Readers should
try pulling at the barrel in 1/2 mm. increments and listen to the tone
quality come in and out of center as one continues to pull. When pulling
at the mouthpiece there is no similar change of timbre.
