The Berlioz quote regarding the character of the clarinet drew me to reread
the rest of that section from his Treatise on Modern Instrumentation. Hector
Berlioz and Cecil Forsyth were very perceptive writers and masters of
musical invective. Their books on instrumentation are very informative,
delightful, and well worth the reading.
