This isn't necessarily helpful relative to the current inquiry, but for the sake of observing that
problems playing with braces are not universal, I'll point out that I've had no problems at all.
I felt great trepidation when first considering getting braces, fearful of potential adverse
effects. I've had them for over a year now, and my playing has in fact dramatically improved
during this time -- not due to the braces, but due to some fairly concentrated practicing and
performance of challenging pieces. The braces have not held me back.
